There are a lot of PhDs who don't accomplish much after their thesis. Mike's so-called thesis had to do with how various ethnic groups taste spicy foods. So as Bill Murray said in the 1st Ghostbusters: He can find work in the Food service industry. The general problem is that many industries, organizations, and institutions don't care what a person's doctorate is in. That's their problem (and it contributes to the country's problems). He has absolutely /no/ credentials as an environmentalist or conservationist. "Environmentalist" and "conservationist" aren't big degree issues. Dave Brower was well known by these titles, but he didn't had a degree in biology or forestry, etc. -- |

I do find this amusing cause the people he is most insulting are the people who actually intelligently and well thought out post agianst him. But the sad truth is this is either some odd research paper he is writing on how to upset the largest group of people with less effort or it is his own delluisional state and paranoia speaking. -- Aurawolf |

Mikey-baby says:
.foods. He has absolutely /no/ credentials as an environmentalist or .conservationist. How would you know, unless you were an expert? QED Um... It doesn't take an expert to deduce that a PhD in Trick-Cyclery has no bearing on ecology or conservation. It's obvious, DUH! Steve |

Mike V says:
I learned about mountain biking the old-fashioned way: reading & direct observation. BwahahahahahahahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA' Stop it Mikey, you're killing me! You learnt about mtbing from reading (?!?) and observation. Observation? One ride on a fireroad where all you proved is that you couldn't handle it, got laughed at, and now you hate all mountain bikers. That's "observation?" Hah! I laugh atr you! I may even bite my thumb at you, too... Steve "Shakespeare Day today, obviously" |

Well of course he is deverting away from the topic at hand, he likes to point at the same articles and facts over and over agian so eventually it starts getting redunant. He has a repeating pattern of it and I doubt it will stop with this discussion since he has a single minded pursuit of his goals. Since everything I have ever seen him link to or qoute has been centered around california I would really like to see other data from other locations, after all Florida doesn't have a hard soil like Cali does, it is mostly sand and very little hard packed dirt, or how about the carolinas? Agian different type of soil, how does mountian biking, hiking and horse back riding affect those conditions, I am not being hostile or combative here, I really am curious. Are there reports from other nations, what about India? Besides a free meal once in a while for tigers wizzing by what kind of impact does it have on their conditions. These are questions there is little or no answers for I have searched and honestly as far as I can tell there isn't much concern on the matter, but the question that keeps being asked is mountian biking bad for the enviroment, answer YES, is it worse than hiking, horse back riding or crawling? We don't know and is it worse than say motorized vehicle on these trails, NO! I can say that honestly from the trails around here which suffer greatly from ATV and Dirt Bike use to the point mountian bikers, hikers and riders avoid them as much as possible. So the question that Mike hasn't been able to answer with any concrete proof is, is mountian biking the worst thing for the enviroment and I would have to say if a research team were to really do heavy work on this the answer would probably be no, simpy cause if you sneeze now a days it is bad for the enviroment, if you walk on a blade of grass coming through the asphalt it is destroying the ozone layer at record speed so on and so forth so Mountian biking is bad for the enviroment and we should all lock ourselves away in our homes which need to be floated above the surface of the planet so that everything will be ok. -- Aurawolf |
