Default Brake bolt threading

Is it standard metric or english? I'm getting a set of new calipers
this week to retrofit an old nutted frame, and will need to replace the
recessed nuts with regular or cap nuts as I'm doing the back in front
with the nut inside the fork routine.

Thanks brothah! My local hardware store, the venerable Cumberland
Hardware, will have the stainless bits I need. If you're ever in town,
you have to check them out. Outstanding service. about 100 years old,
and they have hardware store cats you can pick up and snuggle with
while you're asking Mister John about faucet valves.

Or just drill the hole at the rear of the fork out to 8mm and use a
normal front brake with allen key nut.

Nah, as I'm getting a set, it's easier to just run the front in the
rear in nutted fashion. I don't have a 90 degree drill attachment
anyway. ;-)

90-degree drill bit? Drilling out the back of the fork works fine, and is
exactly what a modern fork has. For the rear, I just drilled out the
whole hole to the size needed for the recessed nut, and it had no problem.
I may have put a sleeve in there, but I can't remember.

It's the rear that poses the problem. It's just a round tube with
holes, no brazed on flats. I should be good to go if I use the thick
rounded washers from the original and stay nutted, but trying to drill
out a thick aluminum washer w/o a bench vise is intimidating. ;-)

I might have to do that- although my cats will get jealous of me
canoodling with strange felines. FWIW: if I'm shopping for odd
hardware, I go to Parkrose: http://www.parkrosehardware.com/ . They've
lots of neat stuff, even nylon screws and wingnuts for attaching the
fairing to my Easy Racer.

I drilled the whole shebang out and everything just worked. Took an
hour and walks all over the old 600 side pulls. $20 for front and read,
by far the most rediculously effective upgrade I've ever done for the
money.
