The first "safety" was built in 1876 and the first motor car was patented in 1886 (not exactly a production run there). The really funny bit when looking this stuff up is that the first automobile mentioned was actually a four wheel pedal car. and yes, I am ignoring the various forms of steam driven vehicles. In any case, it wasn't until after WWII that cars started to dominate the roadways. In certain locations, it was a flood of workers bicycles that dominated the scene. Even the NRMA(NSW) relied on bicycles when they first started, although this is now whitewashed from their history. |
