I'm not the most serious cycling fan, but doesn't this seem like a
fairly tier-2 lineup? I know the Vuelta is the least prestigious GT,
but the winner is going to be Nibali after Wiggins crashes out, right?
This is the foregone conclusion?

Also, anyone else remember when Menchov was a GT contender?

Last year's Tour. Seems ages ago. He won the Giro the year that
LANCE, LANCE, LANCE rode it. Not that anyone remembers.

I'm proving I'm a dumbass: I had no idea he had three GT wins, plus
the points jersey at the Giro (!!). 2:35 is not a fatal gap, and he is
a climber, so maybe I'm writing Menchov off too soon. Also, I like his
weird Franco-Russian name.

I know a German, with a perfectly Germanic surname, whose first name
is "Guido,"

It's a bit early to pick a winner out of that lot at the half way point.

But Moncoutie's ride today was fantastic although he's quite well back
on GC

He was riding away every Klik form 10 - 12 to go even though the chase
was on.

I sure hope he doesn't get caught in the "**** in a Bottle" trap.
