Further to my ruminations about getting the message out to the general
cycling public I've taken some steps towards making cyclists I know aware of the issues. I know from prior interaction some people at work who are, at the very least, part time cyclists. I sent them a mail explaining about WoJ etc and how due to my inaction at least one cyclist did not attend where, if I'd publicized it, he would have. I ended the mail stating my intention to pass on cyclists' rights related events, issues etc to them by mail and gave them an opt out option. I've also approached other people outside of work who identify as cyclists and asked them verbally if they'd be interested in being informed of cyclists' rights related events. None of the people I've been in touch with were aware of WoJ, few were aware of the issues which precipitated WoJ. To date that's 10 more cyclists aware of what's going on. Whether those ten do anything with that information is up to them, the fact that they're aware now whereas before they weren't is at least something. -- Cheers Euan |

wrote in message ... Further to my ruminations about getting the message out to the general cycling public I've taken some steps towards making cyclists I know aware of the issues. Why just inform cyclists about their rights and the goings-on regarding cyclists' rights? I can assure you that not everyone who was at the wheels of Justice rally here in Adelaide were cyclists. You don't need to be a cyclist to believe in cyclists' rights! Why don't you tell everyone you think might care? Gemma |

I'd be miffed i someone at work broached an issue like, say, abortion with me jus because they know me professionally. God knows it's hard enough t shut me up about the benefits and joys of cycling as it is and issue such as this do come up in conversation if, and this is the importan bit, the party I'm talking with displays an interest. To push opinion on un-interested parties is a fast way of potentially alienating them t your point of view; they may well just see pushy anti-car green hipp cyclist The people I've approached have identified themselves to me as cyclist so that's fair game. Even so I've been very un-pushy in my approach. I'm not asking that they do anything with the information I pass on just offerring to pass information on so that they can make judgement and decisions themselves Hope that makes sense -- Cheer Eua -- EuanB |
