Record Time Commute AGAIN!
Hi all,
After a boozy day in the capital yesterday I came to work today and managed to break my best ever commute time by another minute - im down to 37 minutes now! My original target was to do the commute in 30 mins so im well on my way!!! Huzzah Huzzah!! Got my riding glasses from ebay today! they are very good - Kryptonite cycling glasses 7.99 in a nice sturdy case, rubber coated etc. etc. My buff should be here very soon and im thinking about getting some new lights - can anyone suggest some good (reasonably priced please) ones??? Cheers Lee |

Well, as ever it depends. For regular commuting you can't beat dynamo powered lights. They are always there and they just work, you don't have to remember to charge the batteries to take things on and off the bike etc. Best of all is a hub dynamo, but a modern sidewall driven one is fine. Thought hey make a bit of noise, they don't really slow you down very much, if at all I use AXA HR ones they have been good and reliable. If you run a battery LED rear light then you can put a 3W bulb in the front. (I have a battery LED on my utility bike where I use it a lot, on my tourer, where the light's don't get used so much I have an AXA rear LED light that is run by the dynamo but also has a battery system to act a stand light) I use a second rear LED as an extra lamp and as a backup. I use the good old 5 LED Vistalite. It's pretty cheap and pretty bright The Cateye AU100 is a good BS compliant rear light. I'm probably going to invest in a front LED as a backup light for the front. The Cateye Opticube ones look good from what I've seen. I did build up a home-brew rechargeable system, it did give me useful extra light at a time when I was travelling on an unlit path, but I can't say I ever saw any benefit on the road in terms of the way drivers behaved. -- Chris French, Leeds |

I used to use (and love) dynamos which fitted just behind the bottom bracket and when in use rode on the centre of the tread of the read wheel. They used to wear out in the end and weren't easily repairable, so I got through about one a year... but while they worked they were superb. Does anyone know if these are still made? The problem with sidewall driven ones is that a skinny tyre doesn't really have much meat on its sidewall. -- (Simon Brooke) http://www.jasmine.org.uk/~simon/ -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.1 GP/CS s++: a+ C+++ ULBVCS*++++$ L+++ P--- E+++ W+++ N++ K w--(---) M- !d- PS++ PE-- Y+ PGP !t 5? Rules are you can only wear it the day after setting a new record. See how many days you can keep it for. Then you'll be the real deal! -- -------------------------- Posted via cyclingforums.com http://www.cyclingforums.com |

At that rate of improvement continues, in a year or so you'll be getting to work before you've left home ;-) Tony -- "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything." Mark Twain |
