Default third party insurance

I am looking for third party cycling cover as my CTC membership has
just expired and I do not wish to renew it. ISTR a thread some time
back that it was possible to get this cover through home insurance.
Does anyone know of any policies which have this cover?

Thanks

1) Assuming you have home insurance, check the documents and see if
it is included in your policy.

2) If it isn't ask the organisations you are considering giving your
business.

3) Report back your experiences of 3) if you feel like it.

My common-as-muck Norwich Union policy has it. I am currently using
the legal wotsits bit to cover their solicitors (Irwin Mitchell) and
deal with the taxi that "didn't see me" in March. Despite using
several hours of solicitor time this does not count as a claim.

but will it bump up your insurance next time round. At least with the
CTC you get a magazine to read and the fees don't go up like they do for
insurance policies.

This is rubbish. I keep asking people to name one vendor of household
contents insurance in the UK who doesn't automatically include cycling
third party cover, and so far no-one has been able to name a single one.
If you have contents insurance at all, you are almost certainly already
covered - but it will certainly do no harm to check.

Me? I'm covered on my British Cycling membership.

I'll test that tommorrow. I will select my home insurance policy in my
normal way (ie the cheapest I can get) and then will check for third
party cover.

I'll report back.

Tesco.

Cover for bicycles is an optional extra and even this seems to be for
accidental loss, accidental damage or theft. I can see nothing in the
policy about third party cover.

Funny you should say that. Tesco is my outgoing policy and I checked
the bumph looking for any mention of third party cover and couldn't
find any. I haven't checked the small print of the t&c though.
