NBG RIver Run: HiWheels, Trolley, Pizza, Cptn Hydrate, Goody Bag
Southern CA HiWheel celebrity, Marty Wilson, is taking the train (schedule below) to shuttle his bike back to Folsom the Sunday after next (7/23) once our http://www.bikeroute.com/NationalMayorsRide2006/#Anchor-Folsom-33869thi rd annual Folsom to Sacramento Gold Run along the epic American River Parkway is complete. Since we can't get a train out of Sacramento early enough to be at the http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=22909Folsom Powerhouse, (the world's first long distance power plant that Dan Winkleman will have open for tours at 8AM) in time for our 9AM start, we'll be meeting like we did last year in Folsom's main parking lot, in the historic district and next to the light rail station. It is located between Sutter and Leidesdorff near Wool Street and the chamber of commerce. There is also parking along Traders Lane between Leidesdorff and Sutter (north and south) and Riley and Wool (east and west).* Since we will be starting an hour later than last year, there is a very strong possibility that Folsom Mayor, Andy Morin, and other dignitaries will be there to send us on the way to our receptions with the Mayors of Rancho Cordova, Sacramento and nearby West Sacramento. Do note that last year it was in Sacramento that a handful of riders threw in with the sag that transported them over the insufferable Yolo Causeway to the awesome reception that Davis Mayor Ruth Asmundson paid for almost single handedly out of her own pocket for us. So now with 15 miles less to ride, the Capitol region is a fitting end to a a beautiful day of riding. Nor is this a ride you will want to miss. Besides all the city leaders we will meet, one of them, West Sacramento Mayor, Christopher Cabaldon, will even be riding with us, this will be a truly unforgettable experience. Since it is mostly all just slightly downhill, it is an absolutely perfect ride for all the HiWheel bikes that will be there and even the skaters who are expressing interest since it is now just a little over 40 miles. As well will Captain Hydrate, Jack Martin, the owner of http://gomb-er.com/Gomb-er Hydration Systems be there to keep us refreshed. New for this year, he'll be pulling the trailer he completely redesigned just for our ride. It will be full of the ice cold drinks that should get us all the way to the pizza reception that Mayor Chris is hoping he can get staff time for. While all along the way, there will hardly be sight or sound of the world that is busily scurrying about just beyond the river's bluffs. The hypnotic quiet will even make it feel safe to surrender to the temptation of a cooling dip in the wide blue river that winds all along this bicycle heaven sanctuary. And as in year's past, many of us will definitely jump in! All those who participate will get the awesome 2006 Mayors' Ride T-shirt that our amazing Boston to San Francisco scout, http://bikeroute.com/ScottCampbellScott Campbell, designed. Ride with us and you will also get a free NBG water bottle! There may be other surprises. For example, the efforts by Faye Saunders to get an energy bar donation may bear fruit and Mayor Chris might even get us red carpet treatment in his city.. **************************************** In terms of food, bring 5 - 10 bux to throw at a pizza. Here is the Sacto to Folsom trolley schedule: http://www.sacrt.com/schedules/curre.../R507.htm#pos5 Of the two stations below, which is closest to West Sacramento City Hall: The last trains leave Sacto at 6P and get to Folsom at 6:53pm. Note: This is the first year for the train shuttle option from and to Sacramento and we could not even consider it if we were still going to the the bicycle island of Davis..
