Cyclist suffers broken leg in alleged hit and run crash as officersseek damaged car

Emergency services were called to Low Farm Drive at around 6.20pm on Tuesday.

A white Volkswagen Golf, which is believed to be the new shape, collided with a 55-year-old female cyclist and did not stop at the scene.

The woman suffered a laceration to her forehead and a broken leg and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

She remains in hospital on Wednesday morning receiving treatment.

Cleveland Police officers believe that the new shape Volkswagen Golf will have frontal damage and a missing passenger wing (SIC) mirror.

The force is appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dash cam footage, to contact them following the fail-to-stop collision.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Anyone who may see the damaged car, or any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage who may be able to assist the investigation, is asked to contact PC Andy Pitts from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number 122153."
