"four counts of an unlawful act with intent to harm and one count of
reckless driving".

Yeah, good but Who pays for the broken ankle and thumb, any loss of income,
mobility, mental anguish etc as a result of those things and the $10,000
bike "crushed beneath the car"?

Can the cyclists involved also raise assault or other criminal charges
against the driver?

I think that comes under the heading of a civil suit.

I sympathize. I've been riding for over 40 years. But right now, I'm
still in shock from having my car totalled last Sunday, and I'm afraid
my legal options are probably similar if not identical.

However what sorta money is available will depend.

The personal injuries will come out of the car's compulsory 3rd party
insurance.

The property damage will come out of any other insurance on the car
for the price of an application to the insurance company. If there is
none then it is civil suit time, and if the drongo has no easily
attachable money then it might be 5 bucks a week till the end of
time....

There might also be something available under 'victims of crime'
payments, if he is convicted?
