A car believed to have been involved in a hit and run incident which left a cyclist seriously injured was set on fire at an allotments site in Lincoln..

Police were called about the Peugeot estate after it was found on fire at the community gardens behind St Peter's Avenue, in Lincoln, at about 7am on Monday, July 27.

It comes after a 39-year-old cyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a car in Turner Avenue at about 4.30pm on Friday, July 24.

The car drove off and the cyclist had to be taken to hospital for treatment..

Now police have issued a statement about the burning car.

A police spokesperson said: "We received reports on Monday morning of a vehicle on fire within the allotments on St Peter's Avenue, Lincoln.

"The vehicle is believed to be the gold Peugeot estate involved in a hit and run on Turner Avenue, Lincoln, on Friday, July 24, where a man received serious injuries.

"The hit and run is being investigated as a grievous bodily harm-level assault, where we believe the vehicle has been used as a weapon.

"A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this and released on bail."

The spokesperson added: "We are appealing to the public for any information relating to either the assault or the vehicle fire.

"We are asking for people who were in the areas of Turner Avenue on Friday at around 6.30pm and St Peter's Avenue on Monday morning to please check their dash cams/personal CCTV and to let police know via 101, quoting crime 20000381159, if they have any footage or other useful information."
