I'm looking for a wireless computer with basic functions (time, speed,
max speed, avg speed, odometer, tripmeter), plus a thermometer. I don't
need or want to pay for advanced functions like an altimeter, heart
rate monitor, support for 2nd wheelset, cadence, etc.. Anyone have any
suggestions?

I had the same wish list a few months ago. The only wireless one I could
find with a thermometer was a YPK CronoMaster.

No probs with it so far apart from the Max Speed sometimes reads way over
what I could have done, but from browsing the groups it seems like this is a
generic problem especially with wireless.

Oh and the setup sequence is a real pain, you have to completely reset
everything to change anything e.g. wheel size, current time and if you get
anything wrong you have to start all over again and it looses all the stuff
you put in.

I have a Ciclosport CM436 which is wireless and has a thermometer, but it
also has altimeter and recording function. You could check their web site at
www.ciclosport.de to see if they have other models that keep the thermometer
and lose the other stuff.

Vetta V100 shows up on ebay both with and without cadence. I have one
without cadence, works fine. This link might work:

The Vetta 100 series has temperature but it is of limited usefulness. It might
be useful before a ride but once on the road the unit is in direct sunlight and
the temperature shown is much higher than it actually is. I would say that it
is about 6 to 8 degrees high. I would expect other computers to have the same
problem. The Vetta is an excellent computer and it only cost about $30.

This not what you ask for but you could use it.
Cateye Mity 8. Wired, no thermometer, most inexpensive,
reliable. Wireless sets are inaccurate because local
electronics set them running, accruing distance. Also
maximum speed is often wrong even in the absence of bogus
external signals

Get a separate thermometer.

Planet Bike Protege 9.0 does all that and it's affordable ($35ish).
http://www.planetbike.com/computers.html -- much more expensive on the
website than it would be at a bike shop.

Devil's Advocate/Strawman:

Why not unbundle the thermometer and just stick some little el-cheapo
analog device to the handlebar stem?

Seems like it would give the same or better accuracy and still be
cheaper bc now you can go with the most el-cheapo, basic speedo that
will do the job.

Why not tape your cell phone to your iPod?

Well, since you went there... why not just forgo the thermometer AND
the computer? No computer has ever improved a ride for me.
And I missed the wireless criteria before. Since I'm not helping here,
I'll point out that none of my computerless bikes have wires, and I
find that setup quite reliable.

It's very difficult to follow cue sheets if you have no idea how far
you've traveled. You will also need to know what sort of average speed
you can maintain if you ever plan to ride with others.
