Default Fenders - front mudflap important ?

How important is a front mudflap when using fenders? Does lot of spray
come up off the front wheel and hit the lower part of the bike? I'm
thinking of protection from riding on wet roads and through remaining
puddles, not riding in the rain.

Thanks,

Who cares about the lower part of the bike? The flap will keep the
water out of your shoes!

I sense your post has some tongue in cheek, but I'll respond anyway...

I like to keep the lower part of the bike dry. The mean time between
chain cleaning/replacement is much longer if the lube isn't washed off
with dirty water. And the chain squeaks much less often.

Right. That "dirty water" is actually mixed with gasonine residue, at
least in the early part of a rain, so it will wipe out any lubricants it
comes into contact with...it's much worse than just "dirty water."

Most chain lubes are not water soluble, but the condensed unburnt
gasoline that mixes with rainwater on the roads is really nasty stuff.

Not good for your bottom bracket or hubs either.
