Default Mountain Bikers Hate Wilderness!

No more proof is needed, that mountain bikers don't care about the
environment!

AB 2923

According to the NorCal forum on MTBR.com there has been an automated
reply sent out by the Governator's office stating "thanks for your
input, I signed this...." blah, blah, blah...

What can we do to F up the study?

Subject: [Norton AntiSpam] [BTCEB Talk] Act now: Urge Governor to VETO
dangerous bill, AB 2923

Pals,

AB 2923 is on the Governor's desk for signature. Please take a moment
of your time to look at the IMBA Action Alert below, and ask the
Governor to veto the bill. Do this even if you have already written
your legislators about the matter. As you may know, this bill deals
with studying Henry Coe State Park, Austin Creek State Recreation
Area, and Robert Lewis Stevenson State Park for Wilderness status. All
three are used by mountain bikers, and of course, Henry Coe is a
nationally known destination area for mountain bikers. Even though a
"study" is all that is proposed now, keep in mind that areas that are
"studied" in this manner, have a habit of eventually becoming
Wilderness.

This is an easy task. Go to the link below to the Governor's office,
and follow its prompts. (Be sure to select the topic:
"Environment-issues/concerns.) Even if you don't have time to submit a
detailed letter, DO submit your request that the Governor VETO the
bill. The pro-wilderness people are activating their supporters to
support the bill. The numbers of folks urging veto are very important.

Happy trails,

Michael Kelley

Subject: [IMBA-CA-LC] Fwd: Tell the Governor to Support Mountain
Biking by Vetoing Dangerous Bill

Hi To All:
I am forwarding this crucial IMBA alert at the risk of duplicate
communication. I want to make sure you activate your club members and
fellow mountain bikers to quickly write the Governor asking him to
VETO A.B. 2923 concerning state lands Wilderness. Many of you have
already written letters to your legislators opposing the bill.
However, in spite of our opposition the legislature did pass it on to
the Governor for signature. Unfortunately, many legislators learned
too late to their surprise that bikes are not allowed in state
Wilderness. The Wilderness people really pulled a fast one on this.
This is our last chance to stop the bill, and if we get enough
write-ins, we have a good chance of prevailing.

I met with the Secretary of the Resources Agency and he is supportive
of our position, and in fact has recommended the Governor veto the
bill. I have also presented our official request for veto to the
Governor's office (see attached). There also may be a meeting in the
days ahead with me and bike industry representatives with the
Governor's staff to press the details of our position. I think our
chances for a veto are good, however you never know in politics until
its over.

You need to know that the Wilderness people are also activating their
supporters to write the Governor to sign the bill. They are very
concerned about our opposition and our original letter writing
campaign. I can't stress enough the importance of making ourselves
heard. The Governor's staff literally count the number of write-ins
for or against the bill. Please act quickly and send in your email.

Thanks so much for your support.

Tom
