Default Looking for a yellow helmet

Each spring I keep an eye peeled for a yellow helmet, and I don't see
any. I'm thinking of a Pearl Izumi-type screaming yellow, not gold. I
want yellow for safety reasons.

Seen one? Thanks!

You should think again.

The only research of which I am aware on the visibility of cycle helmets
versus the effect on cyclists' safety showed that motorcar drivers passed
CLOSER to a helmet-wearing cyclists than to an non-helmetted one.

There may be something, however, to wearing clothes that are as similar as
legally allowed to those worn by your local constabulary - and especially
so if they have a significant number of officers on cycles.

The Bell Solar comes in "Yellow/Titanium" where the back of the helmet
is mostly yellow (not gold). $20 at Nashbar.

The Bell Slant is also available in Hunter Orange & silver. with the
hi-viz color on the back.

I also decided that a solid bright colour was my best option for
conspicuity, and ended up with a white Bell Faction, since I couldn't
find yellow or orange when I looked. This year's line seems to include
a "neon green" option (though with an unfortunate non-reflective decal
obscuring most of the back) and a fetching pink.

And the Citi is shown in "yellow safety", plus "orange safety" (which
includes a black stripe!?) and white with a neon green flash. I'm
convinced that random flashes of colour serve to obscure the shape of
the object and thus delay recognition and rangefinding on the part of
the observer. (Look up "Dazzle camouflage".) The brain is really well
wired to recognize people-shaped things, so let's take advantage of
that.

I like the Faction; they're affordable, have good coverage on the back
and actually have more styrofoam than vents. Directly proportional to
cost, most helmets have so many vents that that shell colour is
probably moot, and show more dark styrofoam to the rear than they do
shell colour, anyhow.

And as another has posted, it doesn't hurt that the local bike cops
wear white helmets and yellow windbreakers, too. Some people's brains
seem really well wired to recognize cops.

I think that the multi-sport helmets are available in yellow.

Go to Performance Bike and check out Limar. They have/had bright
yellow helmets in the models 907 and 908. If that's not enough, then
try finding one of those old 70s Baylin (sp?) helmets. Good Luck!

Depends on what sort of a rider you are and your bike, but if the Bell
Citi style suits, you can have it either in safety yellow or safety
orange. My everyday helmet is a Bell Citi because it is a good helmet,
well thought out, cool, easy to make fit, aesthetically neat if you
buy one of the plainer ones. Models from previous years, still
possibly on sale somewhere, lack the strap for a light at the back of
the helmet which is only on the latest models but have all the other
features including provision for the helmet mirror on the visor -- and
are less garishly decorated. I have the mirror accessory (it might be
catalogued as a Metro accessory -- same visor; it fits) and it is a
boon even if you already have a mirror on your bike. In short, Bell
Citi and visor mirror, both highly recommended, and available in
yellow.
