Cyclist riding on pavement and across pedestrian crossings
Driving into my local town the other day, I observed a cyclist riding
on the nearside pavement and then straight across a pedestrian (zebra) crossing, forcing me to stop. I then went round a roundabout after which the same cyclist rode straight across another zebra crossing. At least on this one there is a cycle path running alonside the road, but there are clear signs telling cyclists to dismount before using the crossing. I wish that some cyclists would stop regarding themselves as pedestrians on wheels! |

I wonder if one is legally obliged to stop for a cyclist riding across a pedestrian crossing? Doug will of course argue that the cyclist is more vulnerable and it will all be the motorist's fault if a collision results, however stupid the actions of the cyclist! |

Every single one was breaking the law. Pavements, one way streets, lights. 100% consistent. -- Dave - Cyclists VOR. You should avoid running them over if possible, but they have no legal right to expect you to stop. My sister hooted at a cyclist about to ride across a ped crossing, just so the cyclist did not carry on, the cyclist and her husband then pursued my sister till she parked and then hurled the foulest imaginable abuse at her. |

Typical 'psycholists' then! Aggressive cyclists who disobey the laws of the road, think they above the law, have a total lack of common sense, and think they own the roads (and the footpaths) even though they pay no road taxes. Or they might just have misunderstood the law, and thought that you were in the wrong. Some crossings allegedly can be ridden on by cyclists, as can some pavements. It's all most confusing. |
