Noisy Seat/Post
My seat post (or seat) sounds like popcorn - creaking and crackling. It's
unbelievable how much noise it's making - it started out of the blue last week, and has gotten worse every ride this past week. Any help anyone can provide on diagnosing/fixing the problem will be greatly appreciated. I suppose if its the seat, I'll need a new seat? Jeff |

First time it was the seatpost, I ignored it until it snapped where the seat clamp was bonded to the post. Second time it was the seatpost clamp bolt on the frame - had a crack in it, replaced and it went away. Good luck n |

Check the post carefully as the other poster says. However, the problem
is usually not post or seat failure - just a little grease on the juncture of the seat rails and clamp is all you need to silence a creaker. I get this with my combination of Campy post (non-carbon) and titanium seat rails - took me a long time to find the source. Lou D'Amelio |

Inspect for damage and if you don't find any, disassemble (mark the position of seat, post, and rails first for easy reinstall), clean all surfaces and apply a light coating of grease on all contact points when you reassemble. This usually works. Good luck, Mish |

This usually works. I did this, and it seems to have worked perfectly. There was a lot of road dirt/grime in/around the bolt that tightens the seat post in place. I didn't do anything with the seat or rails, as I was able to recreate the noise by putting pressure on/off the seat, and found the noise to be further down in/around the tube. Thanks to all for your suggestions - feels great to fix my own stuff!! ;-) Jeff Good luck, Mish |

Hi,
This is a long shot. Check the nose of the saddle. I have some noise similar to what you are describing, though not as loud. After a couple of weeks, I finally figured it out today. While I was riding, I grabbed the nose of the saddle and wiggled it back and forth. That was the source of the noise. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do about it.. The saddle, a Selle Italia Flite Gel, is under a year old. I'm probably going to have my shop check it out. But in my case, there is no safety issue. Bob P. "J Jones" wrote in message .. . Just drip a little Tri-flo on the rail/shell interface near the saddle's nose. That oughta do it. |
