BOOHAW!!!

Thanksgiving Day
Tour de France Marathon
Wed., Nov. 24 and Thur. Nov. 25
Stages and air times TBD

I know where I'm going to be - in my computer room with a hyoouge box of
old BtVS video tapes that need taped over. But then I may have said too
much... ;-D

Yes, Rose, I did manage not to pee on myself when I read this, but not by
much.

TIVO time!

Just remember, that's a lot of video, some 3-4 hrs per stage, some long
days, and lots of commercials. I don't know how TiVO works (hard drive?),
but it ain't gonna store the whole thing, I dont guess. Get lots and lots
of videotapes, at least 10-12, depending on the speed you use SP or LP.

Can your TiVO excise the commercials?

I bought the lowest end, 10GB tivo on e-Bay a while ago. I let it sit
unopened for a year. Then I decided to use it, so using instructions
available online, I copied the OS off the 10 GB HD and moved it over to a
120 GB HD. At the same time, I added another 100 GB HD. So I now have 220
GB worth of storage. That's a lot of recording time.

I had the entire 2004 TdF on that puppy, along with other stuff.

Yes, that would have been a lot of stuff to transfer off to tape, but then I
don't do tapes any more. If I really wanted to, I could record it to SVHS
tape and then transfer it over to my PC via capture and then encode, edit,
and store on DVD. Or, one can get a DVD-recorder (some come with TIVO built
in, BTW). Or, one can just spring for the DVD sets and be done with the
whole thing. I'll probably go for that last option, since I have other more
fruitful things to do with my time (like riding and dating!).

No, but you can fastward through them. And if you do the capture thing, you
can edit them out.

TIVO was a good investment for me. No more having to be in front of the
tube at certain times and no hassles setting up recording. You set a season
pass and it does the rest of the work.

You need to pay for the service, though, right? Like 10 bucks a month?

Something like that. I bought a lifetime membership for $250, so if I get
two years usage, I break even as far as the service fee is concerned. And,
if the unit breaks, I may be able to get it fixed. The lifetime membership
is on the unit...so if it dies your membership dies. But, if you sell your
unit, the membership goes with it, making the unit worth more.
