Where to ride around Sydney
Others will be able to help you more.
I'm just off the Princes Hwy and ride down the M5 to work most days. It's 25km each way but not a lot of sights. I find any closer to the city too dangerous so you may want to take a train trip for rides. Head up to Hornsby and ride north (or south back to the city) or down to engadine and head south(?) down the princess towards wollongong way. If you want some good climbs head to the Royal National Park near Engadine or up to the Kuringai NP near Hornsby. Good luck! wrote in message ... Hello, I have recently moved to Sydney from Europe, and three weeks ago I bought a road bicycle. I live pretty near the city centre, and was wondering about where I can ride as far as around 25 km (so that I ride 50 km or so). So far, I have been just riding pretty boring roads such as the Princess highway, or ANZAC parade, but as you probably agree, it is not very nice. So I would really welcome suggestions. I have also heard that some people take the bicycle on the train, drop off (e.g. 50 km) and then come back riding. I would also be interested in recommendations of this kind. Cheers, Jenri |

If you just want a ride for fun and fitness, an alternative to the scary Sydney roads is loops around Centennial Park: http://pn2.whereis.com.au/gns/map0PCF0KWNTM6ZJUCPK.gif Loops may sound boring, but it's a very pleasant setting, there are almost no cars, and most importantly, there are always other cyclists of all abilities doing loops to paceline/match-race/talk with. So far, I have been just riding pretty boring roads such as the Princess highway, or ANZAC parade, but as you probably agree, it is not very nice. You've ridden on the Princess, and ANZAC Parade?!? You know no fear! (ps: even the bike path over the ANZAC bridge between Rozelle and Pyrmont scares the spit outa me...) So I would really welcome suggestions. I have also heard that some people take the bicycle on the train, drop off (e.g. 50 km) and then come back riding. I would also be interested in recommendations of this kind. My suggestion for fun and non-scarey road cycling? Move to Melbourne :-) ! Cheers, Jenri xxx fred |
