I like a clean chain, but "clean" is a relative state.
I think the longest I ever soaked a chain was about 20 Minutes some
years ago. It got the chain clean, but so does wiping it with a rag, and
that's a lot quicker.
It's just going to get dirty again anyway...

He wouldn't. He means never clean the chain, ever. Just replace it when it
gets worn past its stretch limit.
