Report on BBC today about rising inflation.

They focused on one family who now walk to the supermarket. Good!

They said the family have done away with luxuries and only buy the
basics.

That would be good, but inside the family's shopping bag could be seen
a box of frosties. Hmmmm! - cutting out the luxuries? - I don't think
so!!!

There was a report a while ago on the BBC about how people were
receiving help with heating costs. One family featured seemed ever so
grateful that they could now afford to stay warm - cue shots of them
swanning about the house wearing flimsy summer clothes. Have they never
heard of jumpers to keep warm?

OK - let's do an A-Z of cyclists' inflation beating top tips. Only
one letter per URCer and in alphabetical order.

A - Air is free, so pump your tyres to the optimum pressure to reduce
tyre wear and calorie use.

B - Bromptons go on buses and trains as well as roads and you can
take them into the security of the building with you, if you have a
Brompton you only need one bike.

OK, that's a joke, really, we all know that everybody needs n+1
bikes where n is the number you currently have :-)

Yes, both my bikes are currently in a state of flux, so a third would be
useful ;-)

And what is it with shops that one day have the heating on and they're
too warm, and the next day the air conditioning greets you with an icy
blast, all the while leaving the doors open?

Point of order : isn't that causing inflation rather than beating it?

C... hmmm. Something to do with cycling and cycles that starts with a
'C'... No, I give up!

D - Downhills. These are easier than uphills so you should try and arrange
your route to include as much as possible without the uphills. This may
require assistence from a certain Mr Escher.
