Default Rhodes Gear Bike Hitch--Close fit

I have a RG hitch for two bikes. I bought it about 12 years ago for a
bike I no longer have. Instead I use it for my Specialized Rock Hopper.
It's been a tight fit. Maybe there's a way to squeeze the yoke (Y-shape)
together by 1/2" or so. Comments. I think RG is no longer in business.
