I can't answer that. Depends on the rider. A serious bike is one ridden a
lot. How about you?

A serious bike is one that never smiles.

' In my opinion a decent racing bike nowadays is Ł3000,
anything over that is not going to make any difference,"
he said.'

I the author believe that he is an idiot IMO. A decent
racing bike is between 1200 and 1600 euro. For 4200 euro
as I showed in one of the pictures of my visit to Rose
Biketown you have a Campy Super Record equipped roadbike
with a 800 gr CF fram. Total weight of that bike is 6.8 kg
or even less. That is not what I call a 'decent' road
bike, that is an 'uber bike'.

You can get a very good Al frame road bike like a
Specialized Allez for around 1000 CA. You can get a
Specialized Elite or Roubaix full CF for around $2000.

Then you can upgrade the wheels, the group etc. :-)

So they only want 18% more than a Bianchi:
http://www.bianchiusa.com/bikes/road...laris-compact/

And no Italian styling.

There you go. Another example. Funny but you have trouble finding a
Bianchi here in Montreal. I looked before I bought my Tarmac.

There are some guys in my club that spout that nonsense about needing to
spend 6 large for a road bike. I don't usually ride with them anyway...

BIANCHI were often seen on the winter bike paths ridden by handsome well
turned out enthusiasts, abt 8 years ago....moremoftn than other ess
noticeable brands...BIANCHI sez on tube BIANCHI...nice paint.

Durng the computer market run up we would see all types from Ti and
Kestrels to Straight 8 Buick touring cars with original upholstery.

Yawl low budget types miss the action here....people with 6 thou to throw
at a bicycle or several: 1) enjoy buying stuff and 2) like bicycles like jewleeree

Take a judgmental position like whatshisname and that's a disease but in
facto their just having fun.

To be clear I don't care what you spend on a bike as long as you ride.
What I don't like is justifying your expenditure by saying things like you
need to spend at least what I did to have a serious bike.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

no idea. There are 3 classes he peloton, commuter, resident and snowbird..

Snowbirds haul bikes haul bikes haul bikes. Thousands. Cost average prob 1200-900. Even the kids. Not many wal bikes on hi end cars and motor caches.

Commuters ride Wals. Or used/stolen late models.

residents are older and prob a mixed group, again 100o-3000.

peloton, trainers on vacation and enthusiast snowbirds prob go into the above 2500 range immediately but numbers are low. I would guess maybe 500 in the area winters. Peloton may number 15-30 depending on visiting trainers.

I don't know them or survey recently.

Tampa has a visible population with less bug spraying. Riding here post Armstrong is variable on spraying from airplanes at nigh. I live on the edge of a vast lagoon off the Gulf. Tampa as urban has fewer 'biting insects' Visible costs go way up there with time trialers on every corner complete with outfit.

I've never watched or recognized a Specialized bike. CF on the street is a complete unknown

mmmmmmmmmm

the bike pathing goes from the end of Sanibel iIsland out to Lehigh Acres in the east then out to the river along Palm Beach BLVD then over the bridge into and around Cape Coral , back over the river bridge on the south end and to here where I stay off Pine Ridge and Summerlin. Good for 75-100 miles with no traffic early fall and absolutely gorgroues weather. WOW itsa knockout. Twilights are purple.

I dislike most of that bicycle, but I guess it serves a purpose.

So much wrong with that bicycle that it's a shame what Bianchi has become.

I don't understand. I wouldn't want a bike with that colour
scheme, but what's wrong with the rest of it for a budget
road bike?

Since manufacturers change color and graphics every year
now, and little else on midprice bikes, you can always
choose a prior year model or wait a few months.

Or wrap it with bright pink tape and two pink cages- accents
matter!

A Bianchi should be at least partially "gang green" in my opinion.
Mine is Black with gang green (celeste) trim. Cro Moly lugged frame. I
heard that Bianchi was bringing back lugged frames on the Volpe but I
don't see them around here much.

Double, rather than triple, crankset.

Frame is too small, with the seat post ridiculously high and the bars
too low in relation to the seat with no way to raise the bars because
they cut the steer tube so short.

Non-adjustable stem.

Very low end components for that price point, should be at least Tiagra
and probably 105.

At $800-900, in the U.S., I'd choose the following:

Novara Verita $780
Novara Strada 3 $849
GT Corsa 1.0 $800
Dawes Lightning 1500 $800
