Default Cyclist has narrow escape from falling RAF jet tank

From Saturday's Grauniad

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/st...681257,00.html

A military investigation began last night after an auxiliary fuel tank fell
from an RAF Harrier jet, narrowly missing a cyclist.
The aircraft had been on a routine training flight when the empty,
three-metre long metal tank fell, landing on a grass verge near the A3124 at
Winkleigh, Devon.

Les Sprason, a Winkleigh resident, was cycling along the road and escaped
death by inches. "I thought, well I am going to die because it is going to
explode... ," he told Westcountry TV News. The aircraft, which took off from
RAF Cottesmore near Peterborough, landed at RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset.
