Default TMS 320 finally admits that cyclists are sponging freeloaders!

That was absolute 100% proof tripe.

Parliament can do what they like. There was a time when there was no
such thing as a driving licence, road tax or registration for motor
vehicles, and what was done in respect of those things for them could be
done in respect of bicycles just as easily.

Unless, of course, you know of some over-arching piece of legislation
(preferably one over which some super-national jurisdiction applies)
which means that Parliament would be prevented from legislating, M'Lud.

Over to you.

FX: eery silence.

yes you did.
The great Judith assures us that

As she is well steeped in the intricacies of the English language, going
to sleep with the OED every night, who am I to disbelieve her?

And thanks very much for the great compliment, coming from you.
Now please, coming from you, accord me the further accolade of being a
weed, a fungus, and the dregs of this earth? After all, I ride a
bicycle for very convenient economical delightful viable transport for
many things.
Yes I know that that is enough for you to think of me as a squeaking rat,
and a mistake of nature. So be it and thanks greatly for the compliment.

Now answer the question I asked; Do cyclists pay any SPECIFIC
EXTRA taxes to use their push bikes on the road?

That's a different question to the last one. Yes, I can confirm
that the government does not demand specific taxes from people
that choose to use a
bicycle. There is no need for jealousy - just get a bike and ride
it.

Nobody is jealous of cyclists. Read the research;

The issue is about tax, you idiot. There is no unfairness.

Who mentioned unfairness? Nobody is suggesting that cyclists being
sponging freeloaders isn't fair. Just that cyclists should pay their
way and stop being sponging freeloaders.

How can cyclists be spongers when they do not *have* to pay tax!?

Because they use the roads and should pay to do so.

If your car was exempt from tax, would you insist that you pay
something to the DVLA? and if not, could we call you a sponger?

If I used one of the minority of Road Tax exempt vehicles I would still
pay all the other taxes including fuel duty.

But bicycles don't use any fuel..

Maybe the bicycle doesn't, but whoever is riding it does. It is called
food.

.obviously. Bicycles are legally
allowed on roads, so I don't understand exactly what you keep carping on
about.
Why do you keep whingeing if they are *legally* allowed on the
roads....jealous because they are fuel free?

How?

By paying an annual fee. We could call it 'Road Tax'. It could
cover the cost of compulsory registration plates for cyclists and
ensure they were insured and properly regulated.

Then, if cyclists demand special features on roads, the tax could
be increased to cover the costs and stop them mumping on others..

I reiterate, cyclists *aren't* requ to pay road, they ride on the
roads legally.

But they SHOULD be made to pay their way.

*How* can they pay road tax if it's not a requirement?

It SHOULD be a requirement.

You are just basically whingeing.

Basically wanting sponging freeloaders to pay for things they use.

They are abiding by the tax laws. *Why* are you having a go at
cyclists?
It's the government that you should be moaning about.

Because cyclists are road lice.

You're another Mr Pounder.

Both gentleman are pretty certain to take that as a compliment.

Did you mean it as an insult?

I certainly take it as a great compliment.
