And it doesn't make the slightest difference. If you can add and subtract the needle doesn't have to be recentered. And the difference is rarely of any significance.

When it is as easy as it usually is to recenter, it really doesn't
make sense to do the mental fudge amd risk making an error that COULD
be significant.
