Cross makes CNN -- the Alpenrose Dairy outside of Portland, Ore.

"But depending on the type of race, a cyclocross bike is not necessarily
required. You see mountain bikes, fixed-gear bikes, commuter bikes and
even unicycles -- whatever is in your garage."

Fixies? Unicycles?? What the heck are they doing in Oregon?

We have lots of fixed gear bikes, but have not seen a unicycle in WA.

I'll bet you a dollar to a doughnut that you DON'T have fixed gear
bikes in your 'cross races. Single-speed, yes... fixed gear, no.

Careful Scott, I know people doing it....

Do I get the dollars or the donuts?

It's hard, but not impossible, and that's the point.

At the risk of putting you in the same position as Reverend Jackson
(who made claims of disenfranchisement but who couldn't name a single
person guilty of committing the act) I'll call BS on you and ask,
"Who?" I'd like the name of even one person riding a fixed gear in a
'cross race, and I'd like them to verify it. Not just some schmuck
who did it once, on a lark, but someone actually racing their fixie
throughout the season.

The reason I included the issue of continuity is that, of course,
there's got to be at least one nut job out there who's tried it. That
doesn't make it feasible and certainly not common.

I am looking for an email for you.

I don't think its a good idea, common, or wahtever, but I know of
people who have done it...
