Team Physician Comes Out In Support Of Landis

Tecklenburg, Germany (AHN) - The Phonak Cycling Team announced on
Thursday that Tour de France champion Floyd Landis tested positive
during the race for high levels of testosterone. In application of the
Pro Tour Ethical Code, the Phonak Cycling Team will not let Landis race
anymore "until this problem is totally clear". Landis denied ever
taking any kind of performance enhancers.

Dr. Denise Demir, Phonaks team physician, comes out in full support of
Floyd. In the German newspaper Bild she denied on Saturday Landis was
doped: "Of course not! I would put my hand in the fire for him. It is
unbelievable what is happening with him." She added: "The testosterone
test is controversial, some say that it is faulty. And there are sharp
swings in testosterone levels. In addition to his hip problem, Floyd
has thyroid problems, that could have affected the testosterone levels.
Plus we drank both beer and whiskey on the evening before the stage.
Alcohol consumption can also have an influence."

Dr. Demir was not at all surprised by the outstanding performance of
Landis in the Tour de France: "On the 17th stage, he rode five hours
with about 360 watts. In training he could do that for eight hours."



360 watts for 8 hours?.......yeah, right! Now the Dr. has no
credibility.
