Calfee Stiletto Pick by Velo News as one of the top 5 coolest bikes of Interbike

I am still wondering why Easy Racers isn't building what looks like a carbon fiber Tour Easy? Is the remote steering a design improvement or a way to save weight? Alan Mushnick To improve low speed handling on LWB bents, the head tube angle needs to be reduced (from say 59 degrees (Tour Easy's and V2's), to 65-70 degrees). Doing this however, moves the handle bar excessively forward. "Remote steering" solves this problem, but ADDS a little weight, complexity and manufacturing cost. -- -------------------------- Posted via cyclingforums.com http://www.cyclingforums.com |

Actually the optimal head tube angle is 90 degrees according to some designers (including Mike Burrows - says so in his book). Nobody's done it with a production recumbent, probably because it's only practical with remote steering and even then it looks really weird. The short-lived Streetglider had a vertical head tube and reverse rake forks. Those who rode it reported that it was a fine-handling bike but, possibly because it looked pre-crashed, few were sold. National press helps us all. On your trips around the country don't forget the Cherry Pie in February. All the best Speedy " wrote: In my book this is huge since I can't even remember the last time VN even printed the word recumbent. I know most of you here probably don't know what VN is, only the best bike racing mag there is really.I know this must sicken a few of you...but it's making our day at Calfee. This is the bike a lot of those racers will buy. Oh and Joshua, the fairings are around in just about any color you want. You folks hang in there....RCN and BROL will have test articles in there soon. In 2004 I'll be taking the Stiletto around the country for various events so some of you will see first hand just how nice these bikes are and how well they go Freddy -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

Anyone see that comment in the NY Times Oct.20th where Mr.Deetz said Carbon
Fiber has a tendency to "EXPLODE" when a bike frame made from it is in a crash. The whole article was about CF being used for bike frames and bike parts AND it included Craig Calfee in the story. So like someone rearends Fast Freddie's LWB and the sucker goes KaBoom...it would be sooo cool to have cars and SUVs afraid the next bent they hit will blow up and take out them as well. ******************* "Mikael Seierup" wrote in message ...
