Why use donuts in the first place?

I keep my bike in the house and take it downstairs when I go riding.
To do this, I hold the top tube and thanks to the donuts, the brake cable
doesn't scratch the top tube.

Donuts only bring the cable closer to the frame.

Yep, But they also avoid making scratches.......

However, if all donuts cause this sound, I'll take them off the rear brake
inner cable, since it's a horrible sound.

My brake cable runs under the top tube with no beads.
While the many areas of the frame are dinged, scratched,
and chipped, the top tube remains pristine.
Pull the beads and ride with a clear conscience.

I use 3M paint protection film for cars on the parts of my frames where I
dont want the cable to rub through the paint on the frame.

Its completely clear so maybe you could cut a long thin piece and stick it
on the underside of the top tube? you wouldn't need the donuts then.

I went to a local automotive window tint store and asked if they had any
offcuts, they gave me heaps of it, so much I still have heaps left

I works a treat.

Cheers Dre
