He must have been rude or threatening to the cyclist.

A man was punched to the floor and left with facial injuries after a
man on a bike approached him and asked for money. The 51-year-old victim
was near an alleyway in Albion Street in
Newark when he was approached by the man on a bike at around 8.30pm
on Boxing Day, December 26. The suspect then asked him for money before
punching him to the
floor and taking a bag of shopping from him. The victim was left with
facial injuries, although thankfully these
are not believed to be serious. Officers say that the offender is
described as white and believed to
be in his late 20s.

"He must have been rude or threatening to the cyclist"?

Not necessarily at all.

He might simply have said, when the demand for money was made: "No".

We all know that cyclists don't take rejection or disapproval at all
well.

A few years ago the unemployable pillock cyclist who used to live next door
told me to get fit and ride a bike.
I replied that I did not want to look like a bell-end. He said **** off.
He is renting a house after living with mum and dad for all of the 32 years
of his useless life. He married a brute, best that a cyclist can get. He had
been told that after 7 years he will own the house.............. there is no
underestimating the stupidity of the cyclist.

I have to say that I love my brute.
