Old Shimano LX rear derailleur pulley

The original pulleys have gone bad on my old Deore LX (RD-M567) and
all the replacements are 10 tooth, this had 11. I tried a 9-speed
AEST pulley and shifting is poor. How well would a 10 tooth pulley
do? All of the 11 tooth pulleys I see out there are for 9 speed
setups.

Are 8's made with 11 teeth anymore?

for reassembly try packing those plain bearings with synthetic boat trailer wheel bearing grease

yeah I asked for 8's n the LBS said no 8's only 9's and the 9 was same as the 8 running.

Use red locktite on the bolts. Try sealing bolts with saran wrap for the push thru.

11 teeth simply means that the pulley is a larger diameter than one
with fewer teeth. Pulley diameter influences two things, the amount of
clearance between the lower pulley and the cage, which is a fixed
distance while the upper effects the clearance with the cassette cogs.
This distance is adjustable, to some extent.

new bearings improve chain's run to the next turn. EXTRA SLOP is probo insignificant compared with the new bearing's directional stability

Is energy lost ? to tight loses energy, too loose also.

one can imagine Shimano engineering discussing the procedures with accounting.

All we 8 speeder's are easy to get along with.

Perhaps, but how much slop is too much? The 9 speed pulleys have some
slop with a 9 speed chain, but the same pulleys work equally well with
a 10 speed chain.

we have a sheet on PULLEY SLOP:

REPLACE when teeth show wear/wheels show excessive cal lateral and vertiplay at bearing surface.

Our Guide tells us fancy bearings in pulley cogs give an extremely high cost/effectiveness quotient.

Plain bearings well lubed and cleaned/inspected
