Will 8 spd crank work with 7spd era bike
I have an 80's Pinarello. 7 speed freewheel. 126mm spacing. It has
no crank or BB. So I'm looking for something that'll work. Will an 8spd Campagnolo crank like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=7102621652 work? David Griffith |

Marketing hype aside, there is nothing about the cranks that knows, or cares, how many cogs there are in the back. It'll work fine. -- David L. Unfortunately, the crankset was removed from auction. So my hunt continues. Will any "modern era" 8sp, 9sp, 10sp crank work with my 80's freewheel? dcg |

You can even use a 9sp chain with a freewheel if you want, but there's no benefit to doing so. What has changed is the outside width of the chain as the number of gears has increased. So far the inside width is still the same. _ Booker C. crank work with my 80's freewheel? BRBR Yep, the front doesn't really care about whether its a 7/8/9/10s chain. Campagnolo shifters will make it work fine.
