Continental makes the best tubes and I've been buying them at about the same cost as the cheap tubes off of Amazon.

Seems to be just the 42 mm stem length? I don't think that's long
enough for most of my wheels.

Indeed. I'm getting kinda low on tubes, and was all set to stock
up.

I just managed to track down another set of Prolite Brachiano wheels. These are 42 mm deep aluminum aero rims and they are lighter than most of the aero carbon wheels out there. And I'm sure that they are lighter than the Chinese aero 50 mm wheels that have aluminum braking surfaces. Campy did make a Bora like that but I don't know how heavy they were. But I am really tired of riding the brakes all the time because carbon wheels don't brake well.

Campagnolo makes carbon brake pads that work well but they also seem to wear the braking surfaces pretty rapidly. Not that I've ridden any of these enough to wear then out since I've been changing bike around so much. But now that I've settled on what I want, I need to think about things like wear etc.

Those short Presta valves worked on the old Campy Protons, Neutrons and Neurons. With the Continental tubes, you are stuck getting 80 mm valves since the next lower size is 60mm which is too short for the 50 or 55 mm carbon Aero wheels.

The 42s work on a lot of mid-depth rims, including my old Shimano C35, but its really, really close. I'm buying 55-60mm these days as a precaution because I switch my seat-pack between two bikes (gravel and rain bike) and switch wheels on those two bikes as well. One could go with 42mm with valve exenders.

Thank-you for the link, but, not a complaint, is $8.36 really considered a
good deal?

I come from the era of 5-cent first class postage, so I was kinda hoping for
$3.50....am I hopelessly out of date?

Yes, you could prove you're much smarter and ecolo-core than consumerist Jay
by getting your tubes from the front of bikes trashed for a flat rear tire.

But I do admit UKP 2.99 is an attractive-looking price considering the
included commie VAT:
