Lance's big achievement
Regardless of which ever way the Floyd Landis case turns out, it still
makes Lance the ONLY person ever to win the Tour de France with Shimano! (There - that ought to touch off a nice flame war!) |

It is proof that Lance Armstrong was cheating with drugs. How else could he have won riding a bike with Shimano components that lack the Old World Heritage and Mystique [TM] that are a feature of every Campagnolo part? -- Tom Sherman - Behind the Cheddar Curtain Impact is not a synonym of affect or effect |

Although at the time, manufacturers tended to not make complete sets of components, and a cycle might well have, say, Huret mechs, Mafac brakes, a Stronglight crank, Ava bars & stem, someone else's hubs, seat pin, rims, pedals, etcetera. |

Dear Hank, Yes, the TdF winners used Huret derailleurs in 1954, 1954, and 1955. Other winners used Super Champion and Vittoria Margherita. My 2nd edition of Berto's "Dancing Chain" lists TdF winners by year with bicycle and derailleur, scattered over many pages by decades. "Henri Desgrange tried to limit the influence of the manufacturers of bicycles and components. For that reason, in this decade [1930-1939] of national teams, all riders were supplied with standard bicycles, but they could use their own saddle and handlebars." It's worth noting that many multi-Tour winners used different bicycles and derailleurs. Neither the bicycle nor the shifter appears to matter as much as the marketing department would like. See huge table below. Cheers, Carl Fogel year winner bicycle derailleur ---- ------ ------- ---------- 1903 Garin La Francaise forbidden 1904 Cornet Cycles J.C. forbidden 1905 Trousselier Peugeot forbidden 1906 Poitier Peugeot forbidden 1907 Petite-Breton Peugeot forbidden 1908 Petite-Breton Peugeot forbidden 1909 Faber Alcyon forbidden 1910 Lapize Alcyon forbidden 1911 Garrigou Alcyon forbidden 1912 Defraye Alcyon forbidden 1913 Thys Peugeot forbidden 1914 Thys Peugeot forbidden 1915 x x x 1916 x x x 1917 x x x 1918 x x x 1919 Lambot La Sportive forbidden 1920 Thys Peugeot forbidden 1921 Scieur La Sportive forbidden 1922 Lambot Peugeot forbidden 1923 Pellisier Automoto forbidden 1924 Bottechia Automoto forbidden 1925 Bottechia Automoto forbidden 1926 Buysse Automoto forbidden 1927 Frantz Alcyon forbidden 1928 Frantz Alcyon forbidden 1929 Dewaele Alcyon forbidden 1930 Leducq generic forbidden 1931 Magne generic forbidden 1932 Leducq generic forbidden 1933 Speicher generic forbidden 1934 Magne generic forbidden 1935 Maes, R. generic forbidden 1936 Maes, S. generic forbidden 1937 Lapebie generic Super Champion 1938 Bartali generic Vittoria Margherita 1939 Maes, S. generic Super Champion 1940 x x x 1941 x x x 1942 x x x 1943 x x x 1944 x x x 1945 x x x 1946 Lazarides France Sport Campagnolo 1947 Robic Genial-Lucifer Simplex 1948 Bartali Legano Campagnolo 1949 Coppi Bianchi Simplex 1950 Kubler Frejus Simplex 1951 Koblet la Perle Campagnolo 1952 Coppi Bianchi Simplex 1953 Bobet Stella Huret 1954 Bobet Stella Huret 1955 Bobet LouisonBobet(Mercier) Huret 1956 Walkowiak Geminiani Campagnolo 1957 Anquetil Heylett Simplex 1958 Gaul Learco Guerra Campagnolo 1959 Bahamontes Coppi Campagnolo 1960 Nencini no brand Campagnolo 1961 Anquetil Heylett Simplex 1962 Anquetil Heylett Simplex 1963 Anquetil Gitane Campagnolo 1964 Anquetil Gitane Campagnolo 1965 Gimondi Magni Campagnolo 1966 Almar Geminiani Simplex 1967 Pingeon Peugeot Simplex 1968 Janssen Lejeune Campagnolo 1969 Merckx Merckx(Kessels) Campagnolo 1970 Merckx Merckx(Kessels) Campagnolo 1971 Merckx Merckx(Kessels) Campagnolo 1972 Merckx Merckx(Kessels) Campagnolo 1973 Ocana Motobecane Campagnolo 1974 Merckx Merckx(Kessels) Campagnolo 1975 Thevenet Peugeot Simplex 1976 Van Impe Gitane Campagnolo 1977 Thevenet Peugeot Simplex 1978 Hinault Gitane Campagnolo 1979 Hinault Gitane Campagnolo 1980 Zoetermelk Raleigh Campagnolo 1981 Hinault Gitane Campagnolo 1982 Hinault Gitane Campagnolo 1983 Fignon Gitane Campagnolo 1984 Fignon Gitane Campagnolo 1985 Hinault Hinault Campagnolo 1986 Lemond Look-Hinault Campagnolo 1987 Roche Battaglin Campagnolo 1988 Delgado Pinarello Campagnolo 1989 Lemond Bottechia Mavic 1990 Lemond Lemond Campagnolo 1991 Indurain TVT Campagnolo 1992 Indurain Pinarello Campagnolo 1993 Indurain Pinarello Campagnolo 1994 Indurain Pinarello Campagnolo 1995 Indurain Pinarello Campagnolo 1996 Riis Pinarello Campagnolo 1997 Ullrich Pinarello Campagnolo 1998 Pantani Bianchi Campagnolo 1999 Armstrong Trek Shimano 2000 Armstrong Trek Shimano 2001 Armstrong Trek Shimano 2002 Armstrong Trek Shimano 2003 Armstrong Trek Shimano 2004 Armstrong Trek Shimano 2005 Armstrong Trek Shimano |
