I was on the lookout for a square taper, 5 arm spider crank for the
fixie project and was recommended to pay a visit to The Bike Station [1] in Edinburgh. These folks take in unwanted bikes & bits and recycle what they can. So, last Saturday I paid them a visit and after a bit of rummaging around found what I was looking for at the bargain price of £2. While there, I happened to take a look at the bikes they still had available for Joe public to buy, well you would wouldn't you. Sitting in the near empty rack was a nice looking bike for sale at about 10 times the amount of a couple of other bikes in the rack. After clearing it with management, I spent an anxious week hoping that no-one had bought it after I left and hoping that no-one would buy it before I managed to get there this Saturday in the middle of taxiing the girls to swimming & ballet. When I arrived someone had it out on a test ride and I waited for his return hoping that he would not want it. He didn't, so I did. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/223/4...7af6070a_b.jpg [2] [1] http://www.thebikestation.org.uk/ [2] From left to right: Marmite Bunnahabhain 12yr Highland Park 12yr Glenmorangie 10yr (bottle back to front) Aberlour Vintage Edition 1990 Glengoyn Single Cask Talisker 10yr Laphroaig 10 yr Bladnoch Single Cask 10yr Lochruan 12 yr Dalwhinnie 15yr In bottle cage: Bladnoch Single Cask 13yr -- Don Whybrow Sequi Bonum Non Time "So tell me, just how long have you had this feeling that no one is watching you?" I sent them an email as soon as approval was granted. I did not get a reply. If this had been a business as opposed to a charity, I would have taken this as an indication that they were possibly not the best of organisations to do business with. However as it is a charity I was prepared to accept that the mailbox might be low on the priorities. As it turned out when I was paying, I mentioned the lack of response for the email and the chap serving said that he had seen it and passed it to someone to respond so it looks like a simple human error on the part of a volunteer. Since I now have the bike, it doesn't really matter. 3) Did you finish the Talisker before you took the picture? The Talisker is actually reasonably full. The bottle with the least in is the Dalwhinnie, closely followed by the Bladnoch 13yr. The fullest bottle is the Highland Park as the seal is still intact. I finished off the last from it's predecessor last weekend. -- Don Whybrow Sequi Bonum Non Time A conclusion is the place where you get tired of thinking. (Arthur Bloch) |
