It stops them speeding at a dangerous point in the road, which is what the police are SUPPOSED to be doing. Why do you think most police encourage the use of satnavs with speed camera warnings on them, and provide information about where they set up mobile traps to such organisations?

Flashing your lights at someone who is speeding (which everybody does by the way), stops them speeding. You're preventing the "crime".
