Very many of the serious or fatal truck-bike crashes seem to occur when
a cyclist tries passing a truck on the curb side, and the trucker turns
over the cyclist. This is what killed most of the women in London a few
years ago.

Bicycling in London, England must be EXTREMELY DANGEROUS if it's killed most of the women in London. VBEG LOL ;)

Cheers

All those women should take the lane.

Yeah, 8,675,000 people, roughly 4,337,500 women, 'most' of
whom might exceed 2 million[1]. I didn't see any mention on
the British news sites. Yet.

Yes, Duane. When coming up to a red traffic light, it's FAR safer to
take the lane than to squeeze off to the curb side of a large truck.

Again: Most of the women cyclists killed that year in London were at the
curb, and were run over when the lorry started up and turned across
their path. Most were run over by the rear wheels. If they had been
behind the truck, that wouldn't have happened.

But some people still pretend the curb side of a large vehicle is safer.
Weird, isn't it?

If you're gonna run red lights, **** happens. Every day I see
bicyclists run red lights, stop signs, etc., without even slowing
down. It really "amuses" me when they blow past me at a red light
where I am already stopped with my bike. I am not sure why some
people think that traffic laws don't apply to them when they get on a
bike. Do they drive a car the same way?

I run stop signs ALL of the time. But I do so when there is no traffic and it is stupid to stop. When you accelerate a bicycle you are using up human energy of which there is a limited amount. Traffic planners almost never make the slightest adjustments for that.

Watching some drivers blow stop signs or red lights, I think the answer is yes they do.

Cheers
