Default Offending the puncture gods

Also known as goathead burr. Very common near beaches in tropical
climes. There are a reasonably aggresive establishment plant i
coastal
dunes.

They are present near most beaches (and open space) in Townsville. I
don't mind if they stay near the beach (MTB has tuffies) but when the
slashers drag them onto the road I get punctures. In summer I don'
use
the road bike at all. Or that might be because it's too hot.

They were called catheads in northern NSW where I grew up. The gree
leaves close up when you touch them - venus flytrap like - but when dr
the thorns are just plain nasty. Used to carry a puncture kit at al
times as a kid, the old hot vulcanising variety. Thanks to catheads I go
lots of practice.

Some things you just want to forget

Just got a post race flat in the back of the car. My first race on rac
tires.
If I must have a puncture this is the one I'd rather have
