Standard units of measurement would be useful to those uninitiated with the
size of a dime. The bulges are most probably deformation caused by the rims ability to conform to the nipple/eyelet. The spokes were probably overtensioned but no damage was made to the rim. Trevor Anton S. wrote in message ... Let me describe the bulges in a bit more detail... I would say they are about the size of a dime (or a bit smaller, ranging from 65-95% of a dimes diameter). When I run my finger along the angeled part of the rim (the surface between where the spoke holes are and the breaking surface) I can feel the bulges. Also I can see a kind of grainy-ness to the aluminium on the bulges. There are no cracks running out from the eyelets. Anton (Anton S.) wrote in message . com... I was in the process of rebuilding a radially spoked mavic 517 (32 hole front wheel, always ridden on-road) and noticed that there are small bulges around each and every eyelet as I was cleaning the rim (old spokes removed). Needless to say, I didn't finish building the wheel and am searching for some advice/info here. It was spoked radially, and I was going to rebuild it 3x. The wheel only has about 1500 miles on it. Is the rim toast? Are these bulges due to the rim being laced radially? My instinct tells me to replace it, but just want to make sure. Any words of wisdom about the above situation would be much appreciated. Anton. |
