Does anyone know anything?

I assumed all the members (except King of the Apes, etc) had given up on it
due to all the trash that's overrun the real discussion.

I've actually been considering starting a new, moderated group over at
Google to keep it going without spam and political BS.

What makes you think the site is "down?"

No, the OP is referring to this WEBSITE:
http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/. Still down.

What spam - I see less than 5 spam messages a day?

This is not a website, but a USENET group.

Neil said it would be down due to an upgrade to the OS and a re-layout
of the data. He's running a bit late, but I expect it will be up for
the weekend.

(I sure hope so anyway - I need my CrazyGuyOnABike fix!)

"Crazyguyonabike" is a Web site (www.crazyguyonabike.com) where people
post their touring reports, started by Neil Gunton a few years back.
It's a great site with hundreds of tour reports. The site is down as in
the server is not responding to HTTP requests.

It's not up yet.
Neil does a great job with this site.

If you need a touring fix, try to Trento bike pages
http://www.trentobike.org/

It's also hot. Very hot. The kind of hot where reading about a bike
tour of Greenland in February might sound good.

To All,

In Early July I am taking a 1200-mile bicycle trip from Minneapolis,
Minnesota
to northern New York, via Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ontario.

This has been a dream trip of mine for quite some time.

And now, through the magic of digital cameras, portable computers, and
wireless
communication, you can follow my "progress" each day by accessing this
web site:

http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/?...oc_id=3729&v=w
http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/?o=3Tirv&doc_id=3729&v=w

Each night, as long as I have access to a wireless connection to the
web, I will
upload pictures and commentary to the web site.

Right now there is some intro information on the web site. My first day of
riding is Monday, June 30.

May the wind always be at your back..

I'm using the newsreader within Outlook Express and most of the messages
that come up on this USENET GROUP are from KingOfTheApes and other screen
names traceable back to the same guy. I also keep getting ads for cheap
sneakers. I've done all the usual filter tricks in an effort to block these
messages, but they still seem to outnumber legitimate posts by a large
margin. Any ideas?

Well, KingOfTheApes aka ComendanteBanana aka donquixote1954 is annoying,
but not a commercial spammer.

Certain newsfeeds block out most of the Asian "I sells shoe" spam,
including the one I am using.
