FS: 54cm Eddy Merckx frame, fork, Shimano headset
This vintage Eddy Merckx frame and fork was repainted at some time in the
past by painting legend Brian Bayliss, as the "Custom Paint by R. Brian Bayliss" decal on the left chain stay proudly announces. This beautiful rich dark blue Merckx measures 54cm c-c with a 55cm top tube. The decals are white with a gold outline. The Columbus tubing decal reads "Tubi Rinforzati Garantiti Acciaio Speciale". The right chainstay is chromed, as is the front derailleur tab. The Merckx logo is pantographed into the top of the seat stays. The Campagnolo horizontal rear dropouts (adjusting screws included) are chromed and measure 126mm wide. The fork has a nice flat crown, with Eddy and Merckx pantographed into the top of the fork crown. The fork tips are chromed. The rear brake cable housing is routed on the top of the top tube, there are two sets of water bottle bosses, a pump peg, and downtube shifter bosses. There are several paint chips and touch-ups on the frame and fork, with the majority being found on the top left seatstay, bottom right side seatstay, and left side chainstay. One leg of the "M" on the Merckx decal on the rightside of the seat tube is missing, as is the period after the "E" on the left side of the seattube. The chrome is very good, with some scratches inside the right rear dropout from chain drop. A Shimano 600 headset is included. I never built this frame up and don't know anything about its history, but it looks very nice overall and should make a great ride for someone who appreciates the magic that Merckx frames are known for. $450 professionally packed, shipped, and insured to the lower 48 United States. Pictures should be available tomorrow for the asking. Thanks, Frank |
