Default Cyclist death prompts speed limit reduction plea

"Eric Favager stood at Scarisbrick Parish Council and gave a short
speech to members.

He implored: “My wife was killed on this road. Something has to be
done about the speed limit on the road before we have another fatal
accident.”

Carl Hughes, spokesperson for Asmall Lane Business and Residents group
also spoke to the meeting which included West Lancashire’s Chief Insp
Geoff Hurst.

He said: “Our first priority is to get the speed limit on this road
reduced.

“We already have 500 signatures on a petition asking for the limit to
lowered.

“What we need now is your support for our campaign.”

Cllr Andrew Fowler also showed his support for the campaign, praising
the group for their professionalism.

He said: “It’s startling that there’s just been one fatality. I was
shocked to learn that the road is 60mph because it seems far too
fast.”

All the councillors agreed that they would support the campaign and
write to Lancashire County Council and ask them to give serious
consideration to reducing the speed limit."

Was the collision anything to do with "speed"? Have you tried to find
out? Do you care? No, you just want to blame and punish drivers
whenever you can. They "shouldn't" be on the road, should they?

Is the bereaved husband of a road crash victim the best and most
level-headed person to make technical road safety decisions? Only when
they say what you want them to. If a guy said "My wife was killed by a
speed camera, so it should be removed" then you would immediately
dismiss their words.

Every time you start one of these topics, you show that your real agenda
is about discouraging car use and is nothing to do with proper road safety.
