Red transparent tape of flashlight lens?
I'm looking for a brighter tail light. Have a couple AA mini mag
lights kicking around, and was thinking of using the red tape people use to repair cracked tail lights over the lens to make a tail light. Anyone try this? Results? |

With decent LED tail lamps running a tenner--I don't see the point...but then, I'm the guy that just last month rigged up a Basta dynamo through a minimag LED conversion for the hell of it and burned the thing out five minutes later... |

Haven't done it. Wouldn't, either. I imagine it would make my bike look look like I had tried to patch a busted tail light lens. (Actually, ISTR at least one of the Mini MagLites that I had came with a variety of colored lenses.) Hey Dan -- not to hijack the thread or anything -- but I, too, have some spare AA Maglights which I find disappointing compared with the good AA LED flashlights. Are you aware of any conversion kits for these Maggies... I always thought "Maggies" were loudspeakers. ... which will bring 21st century solid-state illumination tech to these designs which use what was state of the art in late 19th century Menlo Park, NJ? I still love the way a phonograph works with a nice pair of "Maggies" :-) |

The lights are $20. All my mini-mags were either bought as LED, or have the LED conversion. They sell them @ Lowe's right next to the lights. Later today when I have more time I'll find you a link. It's not a Cree, which is too bad, but it still sure beats the incandescent. |

Just a matter of using what I have lying around. I've got a 5 LED tail light now, and am not happy with it. I'll end up running 4 of them before I feel like I have a good amount of light back there. The mag is kind of a stop-gap anyway, I do plan to add at least one more to the seat post and one or two to my jacket. Basically comes down to something I can do tomorrow for $1 or so, since I already have the lights. |

I imagine that would be largely controlled by how careful one was applying the tape. One of my many other hobbies is RC airplanes. I'm pretty good with razor blades, tape and careful application. Besides, if it doesn't work, I just take it off. No harm, no foul. snip |

(Actually, ISTR at least one of the Mini MagLites that I had came with a variety of colored lenses.) I've bought 2 new, and 2 from pawn shops. None of them came with said lenses. Might be because the new ones were LED, maybe only the incandescent versions come with the colored lenses? |
