Default crank compatiblity

Hi,

I need to buy a new crankset for my mtn bike. The bike has a 7 speed
setup with a PC-40 chain on it. The old crank was a 175. My
question is, do I have to worry about chain width compatibility, or
chain alignment issues when I get a new crank? Are there other issues
that I should be aware of before ordering a new crankset?
