A missing mountain biker was found Saturday in the Huachuca Mountains by a Customs and Border Protection helicopter crew.

Fort Huachuca military police asked for assistance in finding the man, in his late 50s, in the mountains south of the Army post, according to a news release from CBP.

The CBP Blackhawk crew departed Tucson at 4:25 p.m. Saturday and, by 6:20 p.m., spotted the missing biker in the south end of Huachuca Canyon at an elevation of 6,400 feet.

The helicopter attempted to land at the site but was unable due to the terrain. Crew members then rapelled down from the helicopter to the ground to assist the man.

The helicopter crew lifted the man and an agent by rope and flew them to a safe landing zone. They were suspended in mid-air from the rope during the flight to the landing zone.

Once the agent and man were on the ground, the helicopter was able to land and the man was brought aboard the aircraft, the news release said.

The man was flown to Fort Huachuca and then taken to a Sierra Vista hospital to be treated for dehydration and other health issues, the release said.
