It might even have worked...............................
Everyone knows that Holts Tyreweld is completely useless - but what if it
has some solids in it to bung up the hole? Just for kicks, I made up a Schrader adapter for a 600g dry powder fire extinguisher It won't go in unless you take the valve core out, so you can't actually inflate the tyre with it, but I got most of the powder into the tyre. Unfortunately it was a split in the sidewall - too big a hole for even that to block up. Still - proof of concept has passed the first test, it would certainly bung up a normal puncture, mixed with Tyreweld. The tyre is obviously scrap, so I cut the inner tube out so it didn't wrap round the axle, and finished my journey. The RTV treated front tyre hasn't been any trouble, so I might do that again. AFAIK: some fire extinguisher dry powders react chemically and evolve carbon dioxide - RTV gives off acetic acid; so mixing those two tricks could burst the tyre! |

For your next trick, miniaturize the release valve from a pressure cooker and weld it to the side of a valve stem. Pity the pressure-cooker valve works by gravity pushing a plug into a hole, and putting right back in as soon as the pressure drops to an acceptable level. But one might work something out with a carefully-calibrated spring. -- Joy "I also read rec.arts.sf.composition" Beeson joy beeson at comcast dot net http://wlweather.net/PAGEJOY/ The above message is a Usenet post. Screwing the adapter on forces nail onto Schrader release point. |
