Driver deliberately swerved into cyclist in revenge for ‘hand gesture

A driver who swerved his Ford Mondeo into a cyclist and knocked him to
the ground has admitted dangerous driving. Footage of the incident in
Colchester, captured on dashcam, has been released by Essex Police.

The Ford Mondeo braked heavily near to the cyclist, who was with a
friend, at which point the cyclist gestured at the driver. The car then
swerved into the cyclist, a man in his 30s, and knocked him to the ground.

The car drove off and driver Ashley Merrett, 30, was arrested later that
day. Merrett, of Mumford Close, West Bergholt, Essex, admitted dangerous
driving, causing actual bodily harm and common assault, at Ipswich Crown
Court, Essex Police said. He appeared in court on December 18 and will
be sentenced in February next year.

Making rude gestures at someone is verbal assault, what is the cyclist's
punishment?

You've often said that you give out rude gestures to other motorists etc.
