Speedmachine recumbent for sale
Recently a chap accosted me as I parked the Streetmachine at Tescos and
asked if I knew anyone in the market for a Speedmachine: changes of circumstances (job folding plus moppet arrival) meant his had to go :-( He's sent me the details to post on, given below. There were a couple of pics as well which I've not posted here (obviously) but which would be available if you email him and show the bike appears to be in very good order. I've added a couple of comments. "The machine I have is a HP Velotechnik speed machine ftp://ftp.hpvelotechnik.com/prospekte/smgt_prospekt_gb.pdf http://www.hpvelotechnik.com/produkte/spm/index_e.html Accessories I got with it included the speedbag [PC: looks like the "race shape" one, which gives better streamlining and is lighter but only 20l luggage, you may wish to confirm with seller], the hub dynamo lighting, disc brakes and I think an airflow seat [PC: looks like the Airflow to me]. All in all I spent 2350 gbp on it. [PC: has the tiller steering rather than the aero bars and is silver. The rear light looks like it's gaffer-taped to the speedbag behind the rider's head presumably for better visibility, but a neater job should be possible and this isn't going to be an irreversible hack on the seller's part. 2001 spec the discs probably Mag Julies but should be hydraulic in some shape or form, again you may wish to check with seller] I bought it all new around May 2001 as I was working in Dundee and lodging near Errol with my parents and could commute along the Tay along the low road which comes through Invergowrie. An extraordinarily nice commute.. Within a couple of months the job collapsed and I've ridden the bike maybe 2-3 times since when the weather was good. I supposed the bike has done less than 500 miles. Price - Having spent good money on the bike and given its condition I'm obviously keen to get a fair price for it. It's in excellent order - having been stored inside the house. However it's not new so I'd be happy with a decent offer. Let me know if you're interested - it's still with my parents near Errol [PC: between Perth and Dundee, within easy striking distance of either], or if you know of someone else who might be." Chap's name is John Drummond and his email is I would be interested if my bank balance had another 0 on the end. But it doesn't :-( Pete. -- Peter Clinch Medical Physics IT Officer Tel 44 1382 660111 ext. 33637 Univ. of Dundee, Ninewells Hospital Fax 44 1382 640177 Dundee DD1 9SY Scotland UK net http://www.dundee.ac.uk/~pjclinch/ |

Speedmachine recumbent for sale
Upon the miasma of midnight, a darkling spirit identified as Peter
Clinch breathed: [ Speedmachine for sale ] Have you suggested eBay to him? Huge audience, probably the best way to gauge the likely price, and he can always set a reserve below which he's not interested in selling. Chap's name is John Drummond and his email is CHOMP!! You really should spamtrap before posting other people's addresses to Usenet... jd at megginch dot network (minus the work) I would be interested if my bank balance had another 0 on the end. But it doesn't :-( LOL! Yes, it's a Speedmachine, very definitely. I'm scarily tempted, even being a long way from Dundee and never having tried a remotely comparable machine. Just out of curiosity, and nothing to do with my approaching birthday at all, roughly how much do you think a fair price for a second hand Speedmachine like this would be? |

A figure I plucked out of the air was ~ £1,600. Plan B it is then. (I have a MIG welder and an angle grinder and some cheap old bike frames. But no spare time to introduce them to each other, nor a clear idea of what I want. Yet.) (I was pleasantly surprised when I mentioned having seen a recumbent on ebay for £800 (Challenge Mistral mentioned on urc earlier) to my wife and she said "how much do you spend on petrol at the moment?" not "you can't possibly spend that much on a bike".) |

Errr, just remind me of your phone number & I'll call next time I head your way (probably Sunday pm, after the GP). Mike |
