And by the reports an otherwise safe and conscientious driver too.

What the **** was a 65 year old bloke doing cycling along the A1 for
fun?

Perhaps he was making a statement : "Because he could"

Many thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Would you say that cycling can be very dangerous?

Stopping distances for bicycles do not appear in the HC ... and so
cannot be of any consequence.
(Simon Mason - who cycles at 25mph in 20 mph limits - and thinks it's clever)

Indeed - it just shows how dangerous recreational cycling can be (on
one of the primary trunk roads in the country)

Who says cycling is safer than walking?

The junction where he was killed doesn't look that bad either, I ride on
plenty of similar roads.

I wonder if he had taken the lane or whatever the stupid phrase is.

After all - he is legally allowed to do so, in order to ensure that
people give him sufficient space as they overtake.

Oh .... hang on a minute .... what happened?

--

"Primary position" the middle of a traffic lane. To take the "primary position" : to ride a bike in the middle of the lane in order to obstruct other road vehicles from overtaking.

A term invented by and used by psycholists and not recognised in the Highway Code.

Highway Code Rule 168 : "Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass."

Work it out for yourself. Why do you have to be spoonfed by asking silly
questions all the time?

The danger of being killed by an HGV is not unique to cyclists, car drivers
get killed by them all the time, so should they not "swim with the sharks"
as your new hero has stated?
